How to Make a Living Armchair for Your Garden

I just saw one of the most impressive garden benches I have ever come across. The homeowner had built up a stone bench bottom and then grown shrubs one each side and behind it. This created a living armchair, and it looks fantastic.

To make your own hedge bench, surround your seat with something green like boxwood shrubs. Once they start to establish some height, shear them into shape to form the back and arms. Personally, I would recommend the ‘Winter Hardy” boxwood simply because that is what I saw in person. Plus, I know that three small ones will work and they should cost you relatively little.

The shaping of the shrub will be just a basic curve, and not too labour intensive. Once you see the final product, you will not be disappointed. Simple and gorgeous, the best of all combos.
